The Green Climate Fund (GCF) held a workshop in Bali, Indonesia, on 21-25 April, to discuss the operationalization of REDD+ results-based payments and general support by the Fund for the implementation of REDD+.
The workshop brought together experts and representatives of civil society and indigenous peoples to discuss these topics, building on their experience and the lessons learned so far in implementing REDD+. The results of the event will guide the design of the Request for Proposals for results-based payments, to be launched later this year. To date, Brazil is the only country eligible to receive REDD+ results-based payments in accordance with the rules of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Operationalization should be undertaken in accordance with the Warsaw Framework and other REDD+ decisions agreed under the UNFCCC, in order to enable REDD+ efforts from developing countries to contribute to the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the Nationally Determined Contributions that support it.
