In 2012, the Ministry of Environment (MMA) put together a technical panel of professionals involved in the field of REDD+, with a focus on safeguards specialists. The purpose of this group was to provide recommendations for the development of Brazil's Safeguards Information System (SIS), this process resulted in a report that served as a reference for this summary of information. A preliminary version of the summary information on safeguards was made available online, between October 27 and November 7, to gather input from the public.
